GPOYTues - “At a geeky comic book convention” edition!

ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG!!! [Warning: This’ll be tl;dr.]

OK, so I can finally say it! I am now a consummated comic book geek by virtue of my having attended my first comic book convention! I only just recently got back into comics, and this was my geeky baptism.

Last Saturday was the start of Metro Comic-Con 2011 here in the Philippines, and, apart from the usual things you see at comic book conventions—cosplayers, toys and (duh) comics of all sorts—some well-known artists were there too.

So I looked around and lamented the fact that I HAD NO MONEY. And then I finally met hexmagic in person! He brought me to the artists’ table, where they were making free sketches. Little did I know that Carlo Pagulayan was there! 

When it was finally my turn, I said, “Could you please draw Wiccan?” He was like, “Oh, how does his costume look like again? All I remember is his [headgear].” And then I whipped out my iPod and frantically tried to make a Google search. BUT THERE WAS NO INTERNET. So I made a mad dash out of the convention, into the mall proper and downloaded some images of Wiccan. 

When I got back, Mr. Pagulayan was working on hexmagic’s—one of Emma Frost. And, to my surprise and chagrin, I noticed that someone else in line had a TPB of Young Avengers Presents! So, when it was my turn already, I borrowed my newfound friend’s copy of Young Avengers Presents, placed my iPod on the table and let Mr. Pagulayan work his magic. [I specifically requested him to draw Billy with the headwings. I told him that was really important to me. Then he joked, “OK, so I’ll draw just the headwings?”]

And when it was done… I was overwhelmed. My joy was just too much. In a fit of geekery, I requested that I have a picture taken Mr. Pagulayan. And here is that picture:
